When I think of the perfect morning it goes a little something like this: I wake up and sun is shining in my window. My beautiful husband is by my side. I quietly slide out of bed, put on a pot of coffee, nudge my beautiful husband to wake and then we enjoy our cups of joe at the table by the window. The sun continues to shine in and the record player turns.
I have had many of these mornings, however they have been absent in the recent weeks.
Over the course of the past two weeks I have: graduated yoga school, visited NYC, visited Florida, moved, worked two full time positions, and watched my students compete in a city competition. In the midst of moving and travelling my peaceful idea of a morning has disappeared and healthy eating has fallen to the way side.
So honored to be part of such a wonderful non profit. Check out NFTE!
Yoga graduation. Amazing people

This week is a step towards normalcy. I need to detox to get back on track. So this week all recipes will be detox focused! With a detox and clean house my perfect morning is almost here!
Luckily good ol’ Doctor Oz is also all about detoxing. I used his detox water recipe and its refreshing and is definitely helpful for removing the toxins.
- .25 small watermelon
- 4 frozen blackberries
- 2 lime slices
- 4 mint leaves
- 12 oz. filtered water
Place all slides ingredients in a mason jar with water and let sit over night.
After two and a half LONG months Stephen has taken the bar! I am so incredibly proud of his relentlessness work ethic. It is admirable and inspirational. On his most typical day he woke up, walked the pup, ate breakfast and then proceeded to study for 12 hours. He did this every single day and all the while maintained a positive attitude. He has shown me what dedication and perseverance looks like, I am grateful for this reminder.
I wanted to help maintain a calm space for Stephen this week so I bought him some items to help him move through the test with ease. I present to you the Bar Survival Package!
Bar Survival Package:
Papaya Tablets- stomach digestion
Aspirin- I dont care that its chemicals… we can’t risk headaches!
Super food bars
Bar Celebration Foods
Chocolate Treats for Day 1: Vosgues Peppermint & Truffles
Secret package in the fridge (he opened it Wednesday night)…Chocolate cake to be joined by wine 🙂
So happy to be able to spend time with him again!!
I bring a salad for lunch everyday. Since being gluten free I have had to slowly switch over all of my dressings. I usually have Annie’s Lite Raspberry Vinaigrette on hand for when I feel like making a salad with fruit but this week I was not as lucky. Although I didn’t have it on hand I was able to create a delicious supplement that complimented my salad quite nicely.
- 2 tsp of Orange Juice
- 1 tsp strawberry jam
- 1 tsp balsamic
Combine ingredients in small container and stir! This makes about one serving.
Make your Winter Brighter Salad
- 2 c spinach
- 1 tbsp sunflowwer seeds
- 1 small naval orange (cut in small pieces)
- 1/2 c sliced strawberries
- 1/4 c blackberries cut into halves
Big news… this month is Human Trafficking Awareness month. Months…months… months… months for everything right? Although I am not the biggest fan of designated months I do appreciate the opportunities these labeled time periods bring to unaware citizens. *Note: not the biggest fan because I think we should be activists all of the time. Anyways, this past Friday CAASE hosted a film screening (sex&money) and we had a GREAT turn out. It was incredible to be in a room with inspired activists who all shared (even if for that moment) a desire to bring social justice to the sex trafficking industry. To continue raising awareness I hosted a Lia Sophia party this past Sunday. If you haven’t heard about Lia Sophia quite yet, don’t you worry… I’ve got the scoop. Lia Sophia is a jewelry company with independent consultants. One of my dear friends from CAASE generously donated her time to help host the party and donate proceeds to CAASE. At the bottom of this post I put the information if you care to breeze the great jewelry and purchase a few items.
amazing women buying jewelry for a great cause! win win!
I love hosting parties for several reasons. I love bringing friends together, cooking (of course), and the wonderful conversation that ensues. For this activism brunch I wanted to honor my friends goal of being healthy. I included lots of fruit and various baked good.

Orange Cranberry Scones
** For the oatmeal bake I changed the recipe quite a bit. I used a bag of frozen berries from trader instead of bananas. I also used about a tablespoon of honey on the bottom layer. I did not use cinnamon. I also sprinkled brown sugar on the top and allowed it to caramelized.

Oh blog, I miss you! I have been wanting to update for over a month now but the free time I have currently is very limited. I know within a few weeks things will settle but for now… ah well the postings with be rare. I have a bunch of pictures and recipes to post and soon I will get around to it.
Because I don’t have time I figured I would let the world in on a dog treat recipe I made for Burt a few months back. You can find the recipe in my squaresquiggle blog and here http://squaresquiggle.wordpress.com/2011/04/24/go-annie/
There is also a blueberry jam recipe on that post as well.
